Key C major
Style Baroque
Roughly RCM Prep A–B · ABRSM Initial · Trinity Initial
Focus Hear the left hand imitate the opening tune while the right hand sustains its own line.
What its lesson teaches
Study A Second Voice, an original two-line miniature: the right hand plays a tune, then the left hand enters in bar 3 with the same tune while the right hand holds longer notes. Sing each line and play it alone. Count the left hand’s two silent bars before it enters, and hold each long note for its full value while the other line moves. Then join the hands and listen for the tune passing from one to the other.
Technique C major five-finger pattern, hands separately
